James Linderman lives and works at the James Linderman Music Lesson Studio, a music lesson, songwriting and recording pre-production facility in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada.
He teaches guitar, piano and music theory as well as composition and songwriting, and College and University music school prep. in studio, as well as over Skype to students all over the world.
In 2006 James was selected for a 21 member, international, off campus, academic advisory board for The Berklee School of Music known as Berkleemusic Ambassadors focusing on adapting Berklee campus courses for Berklee’s online school and representing and promoting Berklee College at music events and conferences. James remained an Academic Ambassador to Berklee College of Music for 14 years.
James taught Songwriting for Film and Film Composition for the Slaight Music Residency at The Canada Film Centre for 4 years ending in 2017 when James left to pursue full time teaching in his own studio.
James was a featured guest presenter at The Power Up Music Conference at York University in Toronto (11 years), The Producers Conference (1 Year), The Humber College Summer Songwriting Workshop (4 Years) , Break Out West Music Conference (1 Year), Songstudio (10 Years), Newmarket High School (3 years) and the Canada Film Centre’s Slaight Music Residency (4 years).
James was a regular columnist for Songwriting, a UK online magazine and was a regular songwriting columnist and songwriting blogger for Canadian Musician Magazine for over 20 years and has been a freelance writer for over 30 international music publications. He was named most widely read academic music journalist in the world in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
James has a Canadian University (York) and American College (EOSC) education in music composition with a journalism minor.
